Botox 12 units vs Dermal Fillers: When to Choose 12 Units
By Defining Beauty | July 19, 2026
Billie, our Nurse Practitioner, is phenomenal, and for dynamic lines caused by muscle movement, especially frown lines between the brows, Botox Cosmetic Injectable (12 units) is often the better, low-downtime choice. Dermal fillers usually make more sense when the issue is lost volume or a crease that sits there even when your face is completely relaxed.
Here in Hartsdale, a lot of people want something that looks like them, just a little more rested. Twelve units is a small, targeted amount, and it’s a great fit when you want a subtle softening without committing to a larger correction.

Quick rule: If the line shows up when you frown, squint, or raise your brows, Botox is usually the first place we look. If the line is “etched in” even at rest, fillers may be the better tool.
Botox 12 units and fillers do different jobs, and that’s the whole point
Botox is a neuromodulator. In plain language, it relaxes specific facial muscles so they don’t fold the skin as strongly. That’s why it works so well for movement-related lines, like the “11s” between the brows (glabella) and certain forehead lines.
Dermal fillers are different. Fillers add volume under the skin. They can lift, support, and smooth areas where the skin has thinned or where you’ve lost volume over time. That’s why fillers can shine for deeper, resting folds and areas that look “hollow” rather than just “wrinkled.”
In our Ridge Road corridor location near the Hartsdale train station, we do a lot of short visits because people don’t want a long appointment or obvious downtime. Botox fits that lifestyle well, and when someone is new, we often start conservatively so you can see how your face responds.
Real trade-offs: cost, timing, downtime, and how “natural” it looks
Onset and timing: Botox isn’t instant. You’ll usually start seeing changes in a few days, with full results commonly showing up within about 2 to 14 days. Fillers can look more immediate, although there can be swelling at first.
Downtime: Botox is popular because it’s low-downtime. Most people go right back to their day. That’s a big reason Ridge Road commuters and professionals like quick evening appointments and keep their weekend plans intact.
Longevity and maintenance: For smaller, targeted dosing, Botox maintenance often lands around every 3 to 4 months. Fillers can last longer depending on the product and placement. The trade-off is that fillers are not the right fix for every wrinkle, especially if the wrinkle is created by a strong muscle pattern.
Cost: Our Botox Cosmetic Injectable (12 units) is $150. Fillers are typically priced per syringe, so the upfront cost often runs higher. Botox can be a smart starting point when you want to test-drive a subtle refresh without a big initial spend.
“Natural” results: Natural isn’t an accident. People come to us because we take our time, explain everything, and you never feel rushed. That matters with injectables. Tiny placement decisions add up.

What about Botox vs Dysport for small areas?
Dysport and Botox work the same general way, but they can spread a little differently and dosing isn’t a 1:1 comparison. For small, targeted areas, our focus is control and predictability. We’ll talk through which option makes the most sense for the exact pattern we see when you animate your face.
When 12 units is the right call (and when we’ll tell you it isn’t)
12 units of Botox tends to be a good fit if:
- Your main concern is frown lines between the brows or a small area of movement-related wrinkling.
- You want a subtle change, especially if it’s your first time and you’re cautious.
- You need something low-downtime that fits a busy schedule in Hartsdale, Scarsdale, White Plains, or along the Metro-North line.
A filler consult may be smarter if:
- The crease is mostly there at rest and looks more like a fold than a movement line.
- The issue is volume loss, not muscle movement.
- You want longer-lasting volume support and you’re comfortable with a higher upfront investment.
Why Botox in our Ridge Road Hartsdale office feels different
We’ve been here for 21 years, and we still treat injectables like something you earn trust for. People come in nervous, especially first-timers, and they relax because we explain what we’re doing and why. You’re not rushed in and out.
Our front desk team keeps scheduling easy and convenient, and our injectors focus on subtle, controlled results. That’s the goal for most professionals coming from White Plains, Yonkers, Bronxville, Mount Vernon, and the surrounding area.
“What I like best that unlike other places, the staff here take their time and explain everything and you never feel rushed.”
